Daegu 1-Day: Colonial Alleys, Kim Gwangseok Street & Gopchang BBQ

10:30 AM · Begin at Cheongna Hill with its exotic Western missionary houses, descend the March 1st Movement Staircase, pass the grand Gyesan Cathedral, and finish at poet Yi Sang-hwa's historic home — a single walk through Korea's modern resistance history, all within 1 km.

12:30 PM — Lunch · Enter Dongseong-ro, Daegu's Myeong-dong. Try ttaro-gukbap — Daegu's unique beef broth soup served with rice on the side — or spicy muchim-hoe fish salad wrapped in flat napjak-mandu dumplings.

2:30 PM · A meticulously reconstructed 1950s Daegu arts quarter — jazz bars, literary salons, and retro street scenes. Affordable costume rental (period uniforms, vintage clothes) makes this one of the best retro photo spots in Korea.

4:30 PM · A 350 m mural street honouring Daegu-born singer-songwriter Kim Gwangseok. His songs play from speakers along the lane as you walk between hand-painted scenes from his life and music. Intimate cafés hide in the alleys of adjacent Bangcheon Market.

6:30 PM — Dinner · Subway to Anjirang Station. This nationally famous alley of gopchang (beef intestine) restaurants grills over actual coal briquettes — charcoal-nutty aroma, crispy exterior. Order a bowl and a glass of soju; it's Daegu at its most local.

8:00 PM — Night view · Take the Apsan cable car to the observatory and look down on Daegu's basin city spreading in every direction — a sea of lights cupped by surrounding mountains. One of Korea's most underrated city night views.
