Gyeongju Essential Day Trip

Enormous Silla royal burial mounds rise from the city centre like grassy hills — an utterly surreal sight. Enter Cheonmachong to see the actual burial chamber and its stunning golden artefacts, including the famous Heavenly Horse painting on birchbark.

Gyeongju's trendiest street blends hanok cafés, fusion restaurants and local snacks. Rent traditional hanbok or Silla-era robes for photos in the alleyways — a must for Instagram-loving visitors. Try sibwonppang (10-won coin-shaped bread) and hwangnam cream sand snacks along the way.

The oldest surviving astronomical observatory in East Asia (7th century AD), standing alone in an open meadow. Its elegant bottle shape, built from 362 precisely stacked stones, is one of Korea's most iconic silhouettes.

A small ancient forest of gnarled, centuries-old trees just steps from Cheomseongdae. According to Silla myth, the founder of the Kim royal clan was born here from a golden box hidden among the roots — the forest has a genuinely mysterious atmosphere.

Stroll through Gyochon, Gyeongju's best-preserved hanok village, then cross to the beautifully reconstructed Woljeonggyo Bridge at golden hour. The sight of the traditional wooden bridge reflected in the river at sunset is one of Korea's most photographed scenes.
