Yeosu: Night Sea Romance & Island Walks

Camellia forests, ocean cable cars, and Korea's most romantic harborfront by night

Yeosu is Korea's "City of Romance" — made famous by the Busker Busker song "Yeosu Night Sea" — where lantern-lit pojangmacha line the harbor, and every evening the southern sea glows with the reflections of Dolsan Bridge. This one-day signature course covers the island walks, the crystal cable car over the water, the bohemian mural village, and the legendary Nangmanpocha street.

Highlights

  • Odongdo Island: camellia forest, bamboo tunnel, and dramatic sea-cliff paths
  • Local seafood lunch: gejang (soy-marinated crab) or gachi-jorim (braised hairtail)
  • Yeosu Ocean Cable Car: crystal-floor cabins over the sea between two parks
  • Gosodong Mural Village: harbour-view alleys and ocean-view cafés
  • Nangmanpocha Street: grilled octopus, jeon, soju — Korea's most romantic night harbour
Tip: All Day 1 spots are within 2–3 km of each other — walkable or a short taxi ride. No car needed.
1

Odongdo Island

⏱ 1.5h

A beautiful island connected to the city by a 768-metre breakwater walk (or the cheerful Dongbaek Yeolbancharo mini-train). Inside, trails wind through Korea's densest camellia forest, a bamboo tunnel, sea-cave viewpoints (Yonggul), and dramatic cliff paths. The island is at its most spectacular during camellia season (late January–March) when the trees blaze red.

2

Gejang Baekban Lunch

⏱ 1.0h

Yeosu's signature "rice thief" meal — raw crab marinated in soy sauce (ganjang gejang) or spicy sauce (yangnyeom gejang), served with a spread of Jeolla-style banchan including got-kimchi (sharp mustard-leaf kimchi). For the crab-averse, braised hairtail (gachi-jorim) is equally iconic. A proper introduction to southern Korean cuisine at its most flavourful.

3

Yeosu Ocean Cable Car

⏱ 1.5h

One of Asia's most thrilling cable car rides — stretching 1.5 km over the sea between Jasangong Park and Dolsangong Park. The crystal-floor cabin lets you watch the ocean pass beneath your feet while Dolsan Bridge, Odongdo, and the full harbour panorama unfold around you. Sunset timing makes this spectacular. Book the crystal cabin for the full effect.

4

Gosodong Mural Village & Ocean-View Cafés

⏱ 1.5h

Yeosu's oldest neighbourhood climbs a hillside above the harbour, its narrow alleys painted with whimsical murals. Looking down between the houses you see Dolsan Bridge and the island beyond. At the hilltop, full-glass-front cafés like Nangman Café and Wide Coffee Stand serve excellent coffee with sweeping sea views — perfect for the golden-hour shot before the evening programme.

5

Nangmanpocha Street (Night)

⏱ 2.0h

The song "Yeosu Night Sea" described this perfectly — rows of glowing tent bars along the harbour below Dolsan Bridge, where the water reflects the bridge lights in shimmering gold. The must-order is dolmuneo samhap — grilled octopus with samgyeopsal (pork belly), abalone, and got-kimchi — paired with cold soju or Korean beer. Korea's most romantic street dining experience.
