Busan 3 Days: Hip Cafés, Sea Temples & East Busan

Known as the "Santorini of Korea," this hillside village is a kaleidoscope of pastel-colored houses cascading down the mountainside. Wander labyrinthine alleys searching for whimsical wall murals, the beloved Little Prince statue, and rooftop cafés with sweeping views over Busan harbor.

Glide above the ocean on Songdo's sea cable car as the sun sets. Walk the Songdo Yonggung Cloud Bridge and end Day 1 with the sparkling panorama of Busan's harbor lights.

Busan's signature beach — 1.5km of golden sand framed by gleaming high-rises and the brilliant blue East Sea. Walk the Dongbaekseom Island coastal trail for stunning views of the Gwangan Bridge and APEC House.

Haeridan-gil's indie cafés and brunch spots in renovated old houses, or Mipo Harbour's hearty daegutang and milmyeon for a local lunch before the afternoon coastal railway ride.

Board the colorful Sky Capsule at Mipo and glide along the old coastal railway track with sweeping East Sea views through Cheongsapo to Songjeong Beach — now a must-do on every Busan itinerary.

Settle in at Gwangalli beach as the Gwangan Bridge lights up in spectacular colors overhead — on weekends, drone shows fill the sky above. Then finish at The Bay 101 in Marine City where Haeundae's illuminated skyscrapers create an almost surreal reflection across the harbor.

Busan's hippest café district, hidden between the old tool-shop alleyways of Jeonpo near Seomyeon. Creative roastery cafés and quirky concept stores have taken over former hardware shops, creating one of Korea's most unique urban café cultures. Start Day 3 with specialty coffee and pastries in a space that feels like an industrial art installation.

Fuel up near Busan Station with dwaeji gukbap — Busan's iconic thick pork bone soup with rice, a dish that has sustained the city's workers for generations. Then ride the hillside monorail along Choryang Ibagu-gil, a heritage walking route that tells the story of the resilient people who built this port city.

Unlike virtually every other Korean Buddhist temple hidden away in mountain valleys, Haedong Yonggungsa sits dramatically on rocky sea cliffs with waves crashing directly beneath the Buddha statues. This utterly unique combination of ocean and sacred architecture has made it one of the most visited and photographed temples in all of Korea.

East Busan's sprawling tourism complex is home to Lotte World Adventure Busan and a massive outlet. Or drive along the Gijang coastal road to reach one of the area's spectacular ocean-view cafés — floor-to-ceiling windows with the East Sea stretching to the horizon, and the perfect sunset as the final memory of your Busan journey.
