After two days of Silla splendour in the city and its UNESCO temples, day three ventures north to a living Joseon folk village, then east to a cliffside Buddhist temple, a king's underwater tomb visible from the shore, and a dramatic volcanic coastline walk at sunset.

β± 2.5hLunch by the vast, calm lake, then a stroll or pedal boat ride. Visit Solgeo Art Museum for its famous lake-framing window β a wall cut open to make the landscape a living painting.
Yangdong Folk Village
β± 2.0hA UNESCO World Heritage living village where Joseon-era aristocratic mansions and thatched-roof farmhouses still stand on hillsides, inhabited by real residents. A complete contrast to the Silla sites β here you experience Confucian Joseon culture laid out according to traditional feng shui principles. Try yeonipbap (lotus-leaf rice) or pajeon (scallion pancake) at a local eatery inside the village.
Golgulsa Temple (Sunmudo Martial Arts)
β± 1.5hKorea's answer to the Shaolin Temple β a cliffside Buddhist site with a massive Buddha carved directly into the rock face. Watch the resident monks perform Sunmudo, a traditional Korean Buddhist martial art, in a daily open-air demonstration. A genuinely unique experience.
Tomb of King Munmu (Underwater Royal Tomb)
β± 1.0hThe world's only underwater royal tomb β King Munmu, who unified the three Korean kingdoms, was cremated and his ashes scattered over a rock formation just offshore, so his spirit could guard Korea as a sea dragon. The rock is visible from Bongil Beach, creating a hauntingly beautiful coastal scene.
Yangnam Columnar Joints & Padosori-gil (Sunset Walk)
β± 1.5hWalk the Padosori-gil (Sound of Waves Path) β a beautifully maintained coastal boardwalk past dramatic fan-shaped volcanic basalt formations. Yangnam is one of the few places in the world where columnar joints fan upward rather than standing vertical. The East Sea sunset from the cliff's edge is a spectacular finale to the trip.
